Thyroid surgery
Thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped small gland located in front of the neck. Sometimes surgery to thyroid gland becomes necessary if treatment by use of medicines orally fails and use of surgical procedure is thought necessary. Thyroid surgery is applied for curing thyroid cancer, nodules and/or hyperthyroidism. This procedure demands removal of thyroid gland partly or wholly after assessing the damage caused to it by the disease. In thyroid surgery procedure the muscle and other tissues are pulled aside to see the thyroid gland and only an incision is made in the skin.
Stay at Hospital After Thyroid Surgery
The period or time of stay of the patient in the hospital after surgery procedure and how fast the patient recovers, depends purely on the nature of disease, age, general health and extent of the surgery.
Why Thyroid Surgery is Needed
Thyroid Gland Surgery becomes necessary if cancer in thyroid is present or suspected and/or there is a breathing and swallowing problem due to some benign nodule(non-cancerous) or if some cystic nodule after being drained returns afterwards. If, however, during pregnancy anti-thyroid medicines are not tolerable in that case also surgery is helpful.
